Taylor ISD Theater Performances

Two times a year: Spring & Fall

There are many different theater performances throughout the year at theaters in Taylor. Go to taylorplaymakers.com to see a list of upcoming shows and get your tickets. The Taylor ISD puts on two theater performances per school year– one in the spring and one in the fall.

Taylor Rodeo

July 19-20

Since 1950, the Taylor Rodeo Association has proudly brought to you the Taylor Annual Rodeo in the hometown of Bill Pickett. The crowds that come to this yearly event have grown because of the enthusiasm and the excitement– but most of all for the entertainment they receive. Over the years the Taylor Annual Rodeo has become the big fish in a small pond. It is one of the biggest and best small-town rodeos anywhere.

Main Street Car Show

October 26th

The Main Street Car Show is an annual event held in late October/early November. This event is sponsored by the City of Taylor and Main Street Taylor, Texas, and in the past has featured art exhibitions, food, music, raffle prizes, and shopping, along with a wide array of impressive cars.

Patriot Day Parade

Held on September 11th each year

The Taylor Fire Department brings the community together every year on September 11th to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks that occurred in 2001. During this event, emergency personnel and vehicles parade through downtown Taylor.

Taylor Fest

First weekend in May

Formerly known as Blackland Prairie Day, this annual festival takes place during the first weekend of May every year. This festival is sponsored by the Main Street Program, a program which focuses on downtown revitalization within the context of historical preservation. The Taylor Main Street Program supports the redevelopment of the downtown area through historical preservation, education, economic development, and heritage tourism. This event includes live music, live multicultural dances, food vendors, and arts and crafts booths.

Fireworks Show

Held on July 4th each year

The annual Taylor fireworks show is held in beautiful Murphy Park each year on July 4th at dusk to celebrate America’s independence.

Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony

First Saturday in December

The Taylor Ministerial Alliance hosts a Christmas Parade of Lights followed by the official Christmas Tree lighting ceremony by the City of Taylor every year on the first Saturday in December.

Second Saturday of the month

 Every Second Saturday, downtown Taylor businesses join together for a full day of food, beer, music, art, movies and shopping. Take a day trip to Taylor!

 

 

Farmers Market on Main

Every Saturday 10am – 2pm

At the Heritage Square Pavilion, we have vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats, fresh eggs, salsas, pickles and relishes, soaps, handcrafted items, bedding plants and more. Support local!

Numerous BBQ Cook-Offs

Year-round

Taylor hosts numerous BBQ cook-offs throughout the year, including the Taylor International BBQ Cook-Off in August.

City of Taylor Easter Egg Hunt

Join the City of Taylor Main Street Program for the 2022 Easter Egg Hunt at Heritage Square Park starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.
Children will be divided into three age groups and hunt times will be staggered at different times and in different areas in the park:
0-3 years
4-6 years
7-10 years
Carbon Love

Music on Main April 21 Concert

The Music on Main concert series is back for the 2022 season! The Main Street Advisory Board and Public Arts Advisory Board invite everyone to come out to this FREE concert series, held on the third Thursday of the month.
The April bands will be Annie & Kate and Gabor Nicholson.
This event is family-friendly and attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs, and picnics to enjoy the show in the park.

Blaggards Stout Irish Rock

Blaggards (no “the”, pronounced BLA’ GUARDS or BLA’ GHERDS, depending on where you’re from) formed July 2004 in Houston, Texas. They play what we call Stout Irish Rock, traditional Irish music mixed with rock n’ roll, informed by everything from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley to Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath. We are most frequently compared to bands like Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, and The Pogues. Blaggards maintain a rigorous schedule, playing constantly throughout Texas and touring nationally several times a year. They’ve also toured Ireland every year since 2010.

Ben Brown, “the rhinestone baritone,” brings his ’70s/’80s crooner vibe and introspective songs to Black Sparrow Music Parlor, home of the “Rock n Roll Janitor.” The show features longtime drummer, Alex Moralez, and bassist, Roger Wuthrich, of The Savage Poor, and will feature their first performance at Black Sparrow since February 2020.

Not Past 11 is an 18 piece big band from Georgetown, Texas. The band’s musical repertoire spans rock, contemporary jazz, swing, and other genres from the ’60s, ’70s, and later. In addition to bang-up instrumental charts, our vocalist belts out melodies sure to please the crowd. We pay homage to the works of artists such as Maynard Ferguson, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, the Beatles, Chicago, and Steely Dan. Looking for a swing band? Not Past 11 also features a 35 song repertoire from big band-era players like Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, and Benny Goodman.

In 2019 the Gary Cain Band toured Europe, Canada, & the USA, including 10 major festival appearances. In 2018 they were semi-finalists at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis and were the opening band for George Thorogood and the Destroyers.
In 2016 Gary placed 4th in the world in Grammy-winner Lee Ritenour’s “Six String Theory” blues guitar contest, the largest one in the world with entries from 48 countries, and judged by guitar greats including Joe Bonamassa, Steve Lukather, John Scofield, Vince Gill, & Ry Cooder.

Monthly Pinball Tournament
