Taylor ISD Theater Performances

There are many different theater performances throughout the year at theaters in Taylor. Go to taylorplaymakers.com to see a list of upcoming shows and get your tickets. The Taylor ISD puts on two theater performances per school year– one in the spring and one in the fall.

Taylor Rodeo

July 19-20

Since 1950, the Taylor Rodeo Association has proudly brought to you the Taylor Annual Rodeo in the hometown of Bill Pickett. The crowds that come to this yearly event have grown because of the enthusiasm and the excitement– but most of all for the entertainment they receive. Over the years the Taylor Annual Rodeo has become the big fish in a small pond. It is one of the biggest and best small-town rodeos anywhere.

Main Street Car Show

October 26th

The Main Street Car Show is an annual event held in late October/early November. This event is sponsored by the City of Taylor and Main Street Taylor, Texas, and in the past has featured art exhibitions, food, music, raffle prizes, and shopping, along with a wide array of impressive cars.

Patriot Day Parade

Held on September 11th each year

The Taylor Fire Department brings the community together every year on September 11th to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks that occurred in 2001. During this event, emergency personnel and vehicles parade through downtown Taylor.

Taylor Fest

First weekend in May

Formerly known as Blackland Prairie Day, this annual festival takes place during the first weekend of May every year. This festival is sponsored by the Main Street Program, a program which focuses on downtown revitalization within the context of historical preservation. The Taylor Main Street Program supports the redevelopment of the downtown area through historical preservation, education, economic development, and heritage tourism. This event includes live music, live multicultural dances, food vendors, and arts and crafts booths.

Fireworks Show

Held on July 4th each year

The annual Taylor fireworks show is held in beautiful Murphy Park each year on July 4th at dusk to celebrate America’s independence.

Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting Ceremony

First Saturday in December

The Taylor Ministerial Alliance hosts a Christmas Parade of Lights followed by the official Christmas Tree lighting ceremony by the City of Taylor every year on the first Saturday in December.

 Every Second Saturday, downtown Taylor businesses join together for a full day of food, beer, music, art, movies and shopping. Take a day trip to Taylor!

 

 

Farmers Market on Main

Every Saturday 10am – 2pm

At the Heritage Square Pavilion, we have vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meats, fresh eggs, salsas, pickles and relishes, soaps, handcrafted items, bedding plants and more. Support local!

Numerous BBQ Cook-Offs

Year-round

Taylor hosts numerous BBQ cook-offs throughout the year, including the Taylor International BBQ Cook-Off in August.

Taylor Second Saturday

In order to showcase the unique businesses in downtown Taylor, shops are open late (until 9 p.m.) on the second Saturday of every month!  Door prizes, music and food make this exciting event something to look forward to every month!

 

Christmas in July Ornament Workshop
Jul 13 @ 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

A two day workshop that will get you started for early-bird holiday planners! Make 2D and 3D handmade pottery ornaments with local Elgin clay artist, Jan Knight. Utilizing slab style building, Jan will demonstrate her process with lovely textures and glazing techniques. You’ll make your ornaments during the first class, then glaze them during the second class.

Level: Beginner+

Topics Include:
-Slab construction
-Surface texture
-Surface decoration and glazing

The class fee includes instruction, materials and use of studio underglazes and glazes. Ornaments will be available for pickup shortly after the end of the workshop.

Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em BBQ Class
Jul 13 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Smoke ‘Em if you got ‘Em with Ryan Davenport! Learn everything you need to know about BBQ from Taylor’s own infamous pit master. Ryan will teach you how to build and maintain a fire, develop a spice rub, select a quality cut of meat, properly trim a brisket, and cut and serve your finished product. Enjoy a heaping plate of BBQ with your classmates over a few Texas Beer Co. brews at the end of the class! If after that you still want to bask in the glow of Ryan’s genius, head over to the Black Sparrow Music Parlor and hear Ryan perform!

Class will be held in the 2nd St. Commercial Kitchen in the historic McCrory Timmerman building at Main and 2nd St. in Taylor, Tx.

Art Night

Taylor Public Library welcomes you to Coloring Night the third Thursday of each month 6:30 – 7:30 PM. All ages are welcome for all sorts of coloring. Colors and color pages will be provided, or you may bring your own supplies. For information please call the library at 512-352-3434.

70th Annual Taylor Rodeo
Jul 19 – Jul 20 all-day

Since 1950 Taylor Rodeo Association has proudly brought to you the Taylor Annual Rodeo in the home town of Bill Pickett. The crowds that come to this yearly event have grown because of the enthusiasm and the excitement, but most of all for the entertainment they receive.

The crowd can join in such events as the Calf Scramble and Steer Saddling. The rodeo cowboys who ride in the Taylor Annual Rodeo do not carry a membership card. This is an open rodeo; a place where you can watch local people rope and ride. PRCA riders are welcome.

Music on the Lawn
Jul 20 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Soak up the shade under oaks as old as Taylor as you relax and unwind to the tunes of Dale & Waylon Saturday, July 20. These local favorites bring their distinctly Blackland Prairie-style Americana to our gardens, kicking off what promises to become one of our signature events. Guests are encouraged to begin arriving by 6:30 p.m. to set up their blankets and chairs, picnics and coolers. The band will play from 7 p.m. to sunset.
This family-friendly event is brought to you gratis by the Friends of the Moody Museum. A suggested $5 donation helps us bring more fun activities and educational opportunities to the community.

CTHJA Summer Circuit Championship
Aug 8 – Aug 11 all-day

The Central Texas Hunter Jumper Association is dedicated to providing an optimal show circuit for the greater Austin and surrounding areas. The CTHJA Summer Circuit is a three-show series.

This laid back event would be great for families to attend to watch racers and riders jump over barriers in a race against the clock.
